“A community of
faith providing nurture, strength, & direction for living today in God’s
world.”

From the
Interim Pastor’s Pen:
This month
brings the end to my role as your interim pastor and the end to a partnership
that has been enormously gratifying. As
I write the details of my next position are unknown, but I trust as God has led
me to this wonderful faith community, I will be led to my next.
During the
month of July there will be continued activity to prepare for the arrival of
your new pastor, Linda Even. The
pastor’s office will be spruced up, files of orientation materials will be
prepared, and a special worship service of welcome will take place on August 5th. The “preparation” time is nearly behind you
and soon you will be living into a new relationship as pastor and
congregation.
Let me
suggest a few activities and attitudes that have expressed support to pastors
and encourage you to practice these in your new relationship with Linda.
Pray for your pastor
It has
meant a great deal to me to hear some of you tell me that you were praying for
me. Continue this practice of
prayer. Presently Linda is selling a

ministry is demanding as there will always be people to visit, messages to
prepare and meetings to attend. Regular
times of relaxation and rejuvenation are crucial to wellbeing and
longevity. Encourage and affirm Linda’s
times away from ministry.
Say thank you
As you
appreciate Linda’s work among you tell her so.
It is with
thanks that I conclude this, my final monthly article and close with the words
of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the church at
1If you have any
encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if
any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded,
having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3Do
nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider
others better than yourselves. 4Each of you
should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of
others.

June 3rd Youth Sunday and Celebration of Lord’s Supper
Youth are the “future of our church," some say. Without missing a
beat, a well-informed youth will reply, "Wrong! We are part of the church
today." Children and youth are
fully a part of the church. Worship engages all people as worshipers and in
roles of worship leadership, based on their gifts rather than age. Youth are indeed the church of tomorrow and
today and yesterday — as are all God’s people! What do they mean by their theme of a
“complaint free world?” Come and find
out!

On June 17th, The
Litany of Farewell for concluding an Interim Pastorate is an important part
of the interim task; there can be no new beginning until there has been an
ending and a new direction. We will
exchange symbols in worship to mark our new relationship. It is a time of rejoicing as we remember and
give thanks for her faithful service and leadership among us as interim
pastor. We will pray for God’s warmest
blessing on her and her ongoing ministry in other churches.

BIBLEMANIA 2007 "BY HOOK OR BY HARP" YA
SHOULDA BEEN THERE!! On
Friday May 4, over twenty-five kids gathered to learn about the Psalms at the
Biblemania overnight. A traditional Middle Eastern dinner served on low tables
in a desert tent was enjoyed by all. Interspersed with a whirlwind introduction
to the Psalms, kids crafted shepherd’s bags, rainbow crosses, clay lamps and
candles. Gathering around the campfire in their PJ’s, they praised God in song
while eating s’mores. Early on Saturday morning, Lorrie Lummel and her
dog delighted everyone with an after breakfast demonstration of dog handling.
Then the “shepherdess” arrived and kids were introduced to a wooly black lamb,
spun thread on hand spindles, wove on a loom and felted wool. Totally, totally
awesome !!!! Special thanks to all who planned and executed this outstanding
event –Leanne Larson, Connie Caldwell, Martha Ketcham, Sandy Mason, Lori
Lummel, Donna O’Byrne, Barb Johnson, Diane Brundage, Alice Hatt, Jim and Karen
Gutelius, and Jim and Maurine Watts and many others.

A letter from Maqsood
Kamil –

Dear friends,
Greetings. It is with heavy heart that I am writing to
you to join us in prayer for Pakistani Christians. Christians living in two
cities of NWFP, Charsada, and Mardan have received written threats that they
must covert to Islam or face the consequences. The dead line is May 17. We are
setting apart 17-27 as days of prayer and fasting as Christians are coming
repeatedly under fire from the Pakistani Talebans.
Even more tragic is the news that a bill from MMA, hard line
religious parties, have been presented in the national assembly, seeking death
penalty for the apostates, those who will covert from Islam to any other
religion. This is very bad news. The Bill has been handed over the standing
committee of the national Assembly. It is unlikely that any party will resist
it. This will be a clear infringement on basic human rights of individuals.
Please join us in prayer and fasting. Pray that we may remain faithful to our Lord
even until death. God bless you.
Love,
Maqsood Kamil
